Volunteers

We are very grateful to all our current, wonderful volunteer helpers and appreciate the time and experiences they are able to bring to our organisation. We would not be able to provide as many services to as many members without their dedication and assistance.

We always welcome any new volunteers who may be able to give a few hours to assist regularly at any of our sessions or events.

Some of the volunteer roles we have at Braintree Mencap include:

Group/Individual Support – this involves joining in with our members to encourage them to participate and assist with reading, writing and explanation of games etc.

Refreshment Provision – to help with the preparation and serving of refreshments at group sessions and events – you will need to be great at making tea and washing up!

Registration – to assist with taking class fees and recording registers of attendees

Social Interaction – to observe people who may appreciate someone to chat to and socialise with

We expect our volunteers to:

  • Be trustworthy
  • Be a good listener
  • Be tolerant
  • Be flexible
  • Be caring
  • Be good humoured
  • Have respect for our members and your fellow volunteers and staff
  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect
  • Work hard and have fun!

If you think this is something you would be interested in, please do not hesitate to contact us!

All of our volunteers will be expected to undertake Disclosure and Barring checks and we are happy to guide you through this requirement.
